The last few years have changed not just everyday life, but also the way special occasions are celebrated. We’ve needed some creativity to turn the home into a wonderful party atmosphere. So, if you’re decorating a carport for a party, read on for ideas.
Why is a carport a great party zone?

The patio is often the first thought for a party, but sometimes that just isn’t the best area. The patio might not be large enough to accommodate everyone, to set up music and dance floor, set up buffet-style tables for food and drink, and decorate appropriately for the celebration. Or you might not have a patio and may not want everyone inside.
If you live in Brisbane or the Gold Coast in Australia and don’t already have one, now is the time to build a carport. Have it made before the party and then use it as a carport and party venue in the future.
Make sure there are enough seats for everyone. The great thing about parties at home with family and friends is you can utilise the seating you already have – just move the patio furniture and dining furniture into the carport for the party. If it is a more formal occasion, then it is easy to hire stackable chairs and have them delivered to your home. Chairs can be fancied up with covers and ribbons for more formal celebrations.
You will need a table for food and drink. Again, the table/s can come from the home – move the dining table and/or outdoor patio table to the carport for the party. Use some tablecloths that fit with the party theme and affix them with pegs or pins to stop any flapping, or splurge on some paper theme tablecloths from the cheap shops and tape under the table to secure. The tables can also be decorated with some freshly picked flowers from the garden, or make some paper flowers and theme decorations, and fold the paper napkins a little fancy. Tea lights and LED string lights can also enhance table settings.
Carports can vary with how many solid walls are present. Some have no walls, some have one solid wall at the end, others are against the home so share the side wall of the house, and some might be enclosed on two sides. If you do have a solid wall in the carport, then it is a good idea to utilise this wall as the feature wall. Use the feature wall to create visual interest in the carport, utilise the vertical space and make this area for photos with family and guests.
For the exposed poles of the carport, wrap them in streamers or balloons. To completely transform the space you could opt for draping fabric over the walls (or the open sides of the carport and affixing to the ground), making a balloon feature, or creating a paper flower wall. On special occasions, it is also nice to have photo collages on a wall to celebrate the occasion.
The ceiling of the carport is just as important as the walls to add to the ambience of the space. It can be transformed with balloons, lanterns, string lights, draping fabric, or a combination of effects. Just be sure to stick to the same colour scheme throughout the walls, ceiling, table, and decorations to tie the carport into a cohesive party venue.
